Firecracker Slaw Recipe


Consider this healthy recipe for your July gatherings. (Recipe inspiration courtesy of food.com with small modifications by me.) With no mayonaise-type ingredients, this slaw is safe to sit out at room temperature for up to 3 hours.

Ingredients for slaw:  1 head red cabbage, shredded 

1 red bell pepper, cut in thin strips 

1 small red onion, cut in thin strips 

1 carrot, julienned

5 green onions, cut into one inch lengths 

1 tablespoon chopped Italian parsley 

1 teaspoon thyme leaves

Ingredients for dressing:

3/4 cup rice vinegar 

3 tablespoons honey or agave nectar 

1 teaspoon dry mustard 

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger  

Directions: 

  • Mix all the slaw ingredients together in a large salad bowl.
  • Mix the dressing ingredients together.
  • Pour the dressing over the slaw and toss.
  • Refrigerate slaw for two hours to allow the flavors to blend.
