I love lemongrass: in soups, in curries, even just to make tea. Fresh lemongrass tends to be difficult to find and usually expensive at the regular grocery store, and a trip to the Asian market isn't always convenient. It turns out that lemongrass is really easy to grow in our area!
I bought the freshest looking stalks I could find at the Asian market and put them in glass jars with a little water in a sunny window. After much impatient checking and rechecking on my part, two weeks later they were sprouting little rootlets.
Now I can plant them in the ground or in a container. The stalks will divide and split all summer, giving me a fresh stalk whenever I want one.
